At Austin & Carnley, we have the privilege of helping families and executors ensure that their loved ones’ wishes are carried out with care. One of our most recent matters has reminded us just how powerful a lasting legacy can be.
The late Maurice Olney chose to leave the majority of his estate to three charities close to his heart:
ZSL (Zoological Society of London) – supporting the conservation of wildlife and inspiring future generations to protect our natural world
Cancer Research UK – funding vital research to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer
The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity – supporting pioneering heart and lung care, making a difference to countless patients and their families
Through these gifts, Maurice’s generosity will continue to make a difference long after his lifetime. His thoughtfulness will help protect endangered species, fuel research that brings hope to those affected by cancer, and support world-leading healthcare for people living with complex conditions.
Legacies like Maurice’s show how one person’s decision can touch so many lives. For the charities, these gifts are not only deeply appreciated but also vital in allowing them to plan for the future and continue their work with confidence.
Over the coming weeks, the distributions will be made to the chosen charities, honouring Maurice’s wishes and ensuring that his values live on through the causes he supported.
Maurice Olney’s legacy is a reminder that the choices we make in life – and in our Wills – can leave a lasting imprint of kindness, care, and hope for the future. For anyone considering their own legacy, his story shows how even one decision can make a remarkable difference.
