Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming a Year 10 student from the Royal Latin School to Austin & Carnley for their work experience placement. They arrived with a genuine curiosity about the legal profession, and left with an even greater one.
Having heard great things about the firm, they decided to get in touch directly. We're very glad they did. Over the course of the week they worked through real case files, carried out research across different areas of law, and got a real sense of the variety that makes this profession so fascinating.
The highlight? Getting stuck into criminal psychology reports and seeing first-hand how mental health can intersect with the way people act, the kind of detail that brings the law to life.
What surprised them most? Just how vast the field actually is!
"What surprised me was how broad of an area the law profession is. It really is crazy how there's something for everyone."
That's something we hear time and again from people who step inside a firm for the first time, and it never gets old. Law touches every corner of society, and a week like this is often the moment it all clicks into place.
They summed up their week simply: "eye-opening and really fun." Already set on a career in law, the more they discovered about the profession, the more certain they became.
We loved having them with us. If our work experience students are anything to go by, the future of law is in very good hands indeed. We wish them every success, and we have a feeling this won't be the last we hear of them.
